Advice on the safe use and storage of medicines
Your pharmacist is able to give you advice on the safe use of your medicines. This includes information on dosage, route of administration and possible side effects. If you are taking other medicines the pharmacist will check to ensure that there are no harmful drug interactions with your newly prescribed medication. It is important to tell your physician and your pharmacist if you are taking any medicines that you have bought over the counter, or that have been prescribed by another physician outside of KAUST Health. Don’t forget to include herbal medicines/remedies as many of these can have serious interactions with some prescribed medicines.
Disposal of unused medicine
IMC participates in Smart Medication Disposal to help patients safely dispose of unused and expired medicines that may be dangerous to others and to the environment. To use this service, put your unwanted medicines in a sealable bag and place them in the blue medication disposal box located in the KAUST Health pharmacy.
In addition, pharmacists at KAUST Health also offer the following:
Some refills of long-term medications can be requested via filling out the medical refill form. Our prescription refill-by-form service is provided for the convenience of our patients and is only used within established safety guidelines. Sometimes your medications will need to be reviewed or there may be questions from the Doctor about your prescription, if so, we will ask you to make an appointment with the physician.
Please note, this service is only for regular medications that have previously been prescribed by your doctor at KAUST Health. For any new medications, you need to make an appointment to see your doctor. Please make sure you take your medical report/medication prescription or the actual medication box/container with you to the appointment.
In order to serve you better please make sure you submit your requests at least 10 days before you run out of medications
Important to know:
Chronic prescription should not be more than 9 months and member’s medical condition is stable on the current medications
