The Wellness Program

Update Feb 9, 2018: Thanks to everyone who applied to participate in the Wellness Program. Registration is now closed. Everyone who filled out the form will be notified on March 4 about the status of their application. We plan to run the program again, so those who did not get an opportunity to participate this time can apply during the next Wellness Program.

Take a holistic approach to your future! 

Attending the Wellness Program will help you to improve your ability to make healthy lifestyle choices. We’ll teach you to understand how your overall health is affected by various behavioral, emotional, and social factors, and give you the tools to make positive changes in your life. 

​JOIN THE WELLNESS PROGRAM PILOT

The initial program will be limited to three groups of around 20 participants each, but we aim to run the program in batches on a regular basis thereafter. The first three groups of participants will be hand-selected based on their answers to a questionnaire which is provided below. 

By the end of this 2-month program, participants should be able to:
  • Lose weight through positive and sustainable methods.
  • Be aware of negative lifestyle choices and coping skills to deal with them.
  • Improve eating habits.
  • Be aware of the importance of physical activity and nutrition to improve long-term health.
  • Identify patterns of unproductive thoughts and learn ways to defeat them.
  • Have tactics to deal with strong emotions.
  • Develop positive sleep habits.

​BUILDING ON PREVIOUS SUCCESS

This program builds on the success of the Security Wellness Program which was provided last year. The Security Wellness Program involved 30 security personnel who achieved positive and sustained health assessment results during the period of the program, including weight loss after 2 months and sustained results after 1 year. 

​TIMING

We are providing a CommunityLife@KAUST information session on the Wellness Program on January 31 from 5pm to 6pm in the Community Hub at Discovery Square. Attend this event to connect directly with the program organizers and ask questions about what you can expect as a participant.

All Wellness Program sessions will happen between March 25 and May 16, 2018:
  • Introductory session for all groups March 25 at 5:30 p.m.
  • Group A meets Mondays from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. 
  • Group B meets Tuesdays from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
  • Group C meets Wednesdays from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Please note that this event overlaps with spring break. We request that you commit to missing no more than one session in the 2-month program to ensure that you and the other participants get as much out of the program as possible.

​PRICING

As a service to the community, the majority of the program costs are subsidized by KAUST Health. Participants will be charged the heavily discounted price of 500 SAR per participant for the full 2-month pilot.

​APPLY TO THE PROGRAM

This program is open to KAUST employees and/or KAUST residents over 18 years of age.  

The pilot program will be limited to a total of 60 participants, selected based on individual needs relating to lifestyle, health, social relationships, emotional and personal perspective as a whole. Participants will be selected based on their feedback to the below survey.

The deadline to fill in the survey is February 8. All survey respondents will be contacted on March 4 to confirm if your pilot program application has been accepted.
