Health Notice: HFMD

06 May, 2019

There have been a few reported cases of children with Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) in the community.

Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease is a common viral illness that affects infants, children and sometimes adults. Symptoms include fever and blister-like sores in the mouth, palms of the hands and soles of the feet. If your child shows any of these symptoms, PLEASE keep them at home until the symptoms subside. KAUST Daycare or The KAUST School may ask you to take/keep your child at home if s/he is exhibiting symptoms.

This condition will usually resolve itself in a few days and does not require specific medical treatment. Over-the-counter medications can be taken to relieve some of the symptoms. If symptoms persist please seek medical advice. Learn more.

Good hygiene practices such as washing your hands frequently and properly after all activities will help prevent the spread of viruses.
