April 8 COVID-19 advisory

08 April, 2020

Dear KAUST community,

The CMT and the EOC established in response to the COVID-19 crisis continue to take action and wish to provide the following updates.

KAUST cases

The current number of positive cases identified on campus remains at 10. We are keeping in touch and monitoring progress of the three positive KAUST cases transferred to nominated facilities in Jeddah.

Wearing a face mask in public areas

Watch the video below and pay attention to the recommendations given by KAUST President Tony Chan about the benefits of wearing a face mask in public areas to protect yourself and others against the transmission of COVID-19. President Chan emphasizes it is critical to continue social distancing (2 meters or 6 feet) to slow down the spread of the virus.

A limited number of face masks will be provided to KAUST community members. The KAUST Fire Department and Volunteer Fire Fighters will be delivering face masks to each household over the next few days. Deliveries will start taking place from 3:00 p.m. onwards. To maintain social distancing, we will be ringing the door bell and leaving the masks at your doorstep.

If you would like to get involved in making your own face mask or in making masks for the community, please email getengaged@kaust.edu.sa

Webinar tomorrow

A Virtual Discussion on “The World After the Coronavirus:” What will the world look like after the coronavirus and what can research do to help fight it? That’s the question KAUST Professors David Keyes, J. Carlos Santamarina and Mani Sarathy propose to answer on Thursday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m. in a webinar moderated by Dr. Naadiya Carrim.

Staying informed

Once again, we’d like to thank you for your cooperation and ongoing adherence to directives. These have been designed to keep you safe and to help manage the crisis.
