Important Travel Update| New Guidelines for Carrying Controlled Medication Effective 1 Nov 2025

10 November, 2025

Dear Community Members,

To ensure a smooth and hassle-free travel experience, please be informed of new guidelines from the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) regarding the carriage of

 Classification: Internal

controlled medications containing narcotic or psychotropic substances when entering or departing from Saudi Arabia. These guidelines take effect on 1 November 2025.

The SFDA has introduced a streamlined process to facilitate your journey while upholding the highest safety standards.

Key Highlights of the New Process:

  • Online Application: Travelers must now apply for a clearance permit electronically through the official SFDA Controlled Drug System (CDS) at: https://cds.sfda.gov.sa
  • Simple Steps: The process involves creating a personal account, submitting a permit request with patient and travel details, and uploading the required documents.
  • Real-Time Tracking: You can easily track your application status, which will be clearly shown as "Submitted," "Completed," "Rejected," or "Incomplete."

Required Documents for Application:

When applying, please have the following ready to upload:

  • A valid prescription for the medication.
  • A supporting medical report.
  • Proof of identity (e.g., Passport).
  • Accurate medication details (Trade Name, Active Ingredient, Concentration, and Quantity).

Why This is Important:

This system is designed to protect patient rights, prevent the misuse of controlled substances, and provide a convenient, secure way for travelers to obtain the necessary clearances well in advance of their journey. It eliminates the need for last-minute procedures and potential travel disruptions.

Act Now Before You Travel:

We strongly advise all community members who travel with prescribed controlled medication to familiarize themselves with this new process.
